Carpool Program

The Carpool Program encourages eligible University of Florida and Shands faculty and staff members to share the ride to and from campus:

    • Help improve air quality and conserve energy.
    • Reduce traffic and relieve parking congestion.
    • Cut wear and tear on your vehicle, gasoline and insurance costs.
    • Make new friends, reduce the stress of commuting alone and enjoy preferred parking at a nominal cost.

You must turn in your current decal before a new decal can be issued. To save time you may wish to print and fill out the renewal form before coming into our office. Click here

Who Is Eligible to Participate?
    • Carpool groups consist of two (2) registered members. Additional riders are welcome and strongly encouraged, but only two will be registered members.
    • Both registered members must be full time, benefits eligible UF or Shands employees.  Both are required to work compatible day-shift schedules on the main campus and live along a reasonable commuting path.
How the Carpool Program Works
    • Both registered members are required to purchase their own annual Carpool decals. Both Carpool decals must be displayed together in the vehicle in order to park in the assigned carpool zone. The Carpool decals are smaller and both will fit onto one standard display device.
    • Carpool decals are not interchangeable between carpool groups.  Participants must display both decals issued for their carpool only.  If a carpool group disbands, both decals must be returned before a new carpool group can be formed.
    • Spaces will be added as needed to expand carpool zones and accommodate new carpool groups. Carpool zones will be located in high-demand areas around campus including:

      Criser Hall
      HSC Garage 3
      Chemistry Lab Lot
      1329 Garage
      McCarty Drive
      PPD Area
      Infirmary South Lot
      Orthopedics Lot
      East Hall

  • A member of the TAPS or UPD staff will drive you home in an official vehicle, or TAPS will reimburse you for cab fare home upon submission of a valid receipt, as approved by TAPS.  Please obtain cab fare approval prior to 4:00 PM.
Occasions When Unable to Carpool
  • Registered carpool members may purchase up to six (6) one-day permits per semester at half price (half of the current cost is $2.50) for use in (non-carpool) decal restricted parking areas.
  • On days when a participant is unable to carpool, one vehicle still may use the carpool zone provided that it displays both Carpool decals. The other vehicle may not use the carpool zone, but may use a one-day permit and park in the appropriate decal restricted lot. It is important to note that a one-day permit may not be used in a carpool zone.
  • A one-day permit is required on non-carpooling occasions. Remember: a single Carpool decal by itself is not valid for parking anywhere on campus.
  • Only one carpool member’s vehicle may park in any of the carpool zones on campus at any time. If more than one carpool member parks in any of the carpool areas at the same time, both vehicles are subject to receiving parking citations.
Penalties for Misuse
  • TAPS welcomes participation in the Carpool Program by individuals who comply with the spirit and the intent of the program. If you are unable to observe the rules, please explore other commuting alternatives and avoid fines and penalties.
  • Individuals falsely participating in the carpool program shall be subject to a $150 fine, plus the cost of the equivalent parking decal for False Registration, vehicle impoundment and loss of carpool parking privileges for the remainder of the current decal year and the following decal year.
