Motorcycle / Scooter

A valid UF motorcycle decal is required to park a motorcycle or scooter on campus. All individuals operating a motorcycle or scooter on campus must abide by UF parking rules and regulations and park in a Motorcycle/Scooter parking area. All members of the UF community are eligible to purchase a motorcycle/scooter decal.

Changes From Unstructured to Structured
In the last four years, motorcycle and scooter decal sales have increased at a higher rate than any other decal at UF. Some factors that have influenced this increase:

  • Sharp rise in fuel and vehicle costs
  • More competition for fewer spaces on campus each year
  • Less work than a bicycle…cheaper than a car to buy and operate
  • Most convenient parking spaces throughout campus
  • All students, faculty and staff eligible, including freshmen
  • Perception that motorcycles and scooters offer a positive contribution to the sustainability initiatives
  • Perception that every motorcycle/scooter effectively removes a single occupancy car from the system
  • Flexibility and convenience of motorcycles & scooters on campus

Some Possible Solutions

  • Provide separation area between cars and cycles/scooters
  • Properly sign AND stringently enforce parking for cycles/scooters
  • Striping dedicated spaces for cycles/scooters
  • Provide proper access aisles in cycle/scooter zones
  • What is Our Strategy?

  • Continue to provide more cycle/scooter parking to meet increased demand
  • Create design standards enabling us to provide some structure and safety while still offering flexibility
  • Step up enforcement to ensure riders are being responsible parkers
